My knee started hurting over a year and a half ago. There was a sharp pain getting below parallel, with or without weight. I went and got treatment somewhere else for a couple months with little to no success. Eventually I gave up on it ever getting better. After over a year of knee pain every morning when I would workout and throughout my day, I decided to see what Andrew thought was going on, and what it would take to get better. After seeing him a handful of times over the course of ~2 months, I returned to squatting pain free for the first time in as long as I can remember. I began to add weight back, and only a couple weeks out of treatment was able to PR my front and back squats, which I would have never expected. I’m very happy with my results, and will continue to implement what I learned from him going forward. I would definitely recommend making an appointment if you’ve got any type of sports or exercise related injury going on, even if you’ve tried other therapies and don’t think your problem can be fixed. That’s where I was too!

I was referred to Andrew with The Charlotte Athlete through a mutual friend in the CrossFit community. I have been doing CrossFit for little over a year when I began having some shoulder issues. It got to the point where I was worried that if I kept pushing it in the gym something was going to tear in my shoulder. So I first went to see an orthopedic specialist which was okay but I didn’t really get the feedback I was hoping to get. Soon after I was connected with Andrew. My first conversation with him went very well. He was informative and professional and even went over the cost for his services upfront, which is something not often seen in the healthcare industry. I described my condition the best I could and he was very attentive, performed some tests, and came up with a plan to correct the problem. So after 6 sessions with Andrew and doing my assigned exercises throughout the week, my shoulder feels the best it’s felt in months. When I went in for my first appointment I couldn’t do a simple overhead press or even a pull up. Now I can do both and it feels great. Thanks Andrew for all of your help!

I started having shoulder pain on and off for about 6 months, which was slowly, but progressively getting worse, and at some point limited me to perform any overhead movements in my workouts. Eventually, after modifying and scaling all my workouts I decided to contact Andrew to try to find out what's going on with my shoulder. Andrew is very knowledgeable, and was able to find out the cause of my pain right away, and I am very happy about the progress I have been able to make so far thanks to him. I am not at 100 % yet, but I am slowly incorporating overhead movements into my workouts pain free, which I was not able to do just a few weeks ago at all. If you put in the time to do your exercises and follow what he tells you to do, you will get better for sure! I can highly recommend Andrew to any athlete/friend/family member who is looking to improve pain and mobility issues!

Andrew at The Charlotte Athlete knows his stuff! I had surgery on both knees in my teens and early 20's because of sports related injuries. I've mostly been able to manage it until recently. (20 years and 4 kids later) My 2 biggest concerns were that I was having knee pain when I work out and I couldn't sit cross legged on the floor anymore. I've been pretty active my whole life, but because of these ailments, I started working out less. I wanted to find someone who could help me fix the problems through movement and mobility, so I came to The Charlotte Athlete. Andrew helped me strengthen the areas that were causing me pain and showed me proper form with something as easy as standing up from a seated position. My knees no longer hurt when I work out. He also helped my in just 2 visits to drastically increase my mobility, so I can comfortably sit cross legged on the ground. Andrew cares about the client and fixing the problem. He doesn't just want to cycle you through. He customizes your exercises to treat your exact issues. He spends a whole hour with his clients. I felt I always had the ability to ask questions and understand what he was having me do. I was about to call an Orthopedic surgeon to take care of my knees before my husband found The Charlotte Athlete for me. I'm so glad he did. Andrew has given me the knowledge and exercises that will help my body function properly for many more years...without surgery, so yay! Thank you! Thank you!

Andrew has been amazing these past few weeks that I have been seeing him. My pain started in 2014 and I have been ignoring it since then. I would see a massage therapist once a month and that would help relieve the pain temporarily. I had no idea what caused my pain or how I could fix it long term. It has stopped me from lifting weights and sometimes even sleeping comfortably at night. I met with Andrew who did a thorough assessment and noticed I had poor movement patterns and also encouraged me to make small lifestyle changes (standing desk, sleeping on my back, walking around at work to break up long hours of sitting). With a little bit of homework and a lot of help from Andrew, my pain has decreased over just 5 sessions. I have definitely recommended Andrew to family members and friends, his knowledge of the human body is astounding! Andrew WILL help you feel better but YOU have to put in the work to get the results you want as well!

In the Fall of 2012 I got into a bicycle accident. I had been wearing a helmet so my injuries were primarily on the side which had been tossed to the ground. At the time, I didn't think much of it; figuring the injury to be more superficial than anything else. But when I started experiencing intense pain doing things I'd always loved and been able to do with regularity (run - I've completed two marathons, barre/yoga - I do this 4x a weeks or merely sit on an airplane - I was commuting cross-country weekly), I decided it was time to take action. I started cryotherapy, traditional physical therapy, etc. - nothing worked. When I learned the issue was larger, a torn labrum in my hip, requiring surgery to repair, I was frustrated but went in search of the best physical therapist for the job of getting me back to what I love to do! Thank goodness I found Andrew/The Charlotte Athlete. His approach is professional and personal. He is extremely well-educated, while tailoring his approach to each person and their needs. I am confident that without him, I wouldn't be on the excellent road to recovery I am now. It's thanks to him that I'm already feeling better than I have since that Fall in 2012. I cannot recommend The Charlotte Athlete more!

Andrew was amazing. Over the course of 3 visits he was able to help me get rid of all my neck pain. He gave me exercises and advice on posture that will help keep me from reinjuring my neck. He did so without telling me to stop all activity and workouts, as an athlete I appreciated that he could work with my active lifestyle. I would highly recommend Andrew.

My shoulder had been aching after more intense workouts for the better part of six months – I had tried seeing a chiropractor, massage therapy, even fascial stretch therapy and nothing seemed to help. I was very frustrated and felt I had limited strength and mobility in overhead movements. I attended a Bulletproof Shoulder workshop given at my crossfit gym by Dr. Andrew at the Charlotte Athlete and learned ways to increase mobility overhead. I instantly felt a difference which prompted me to have a consultation with Andrew. I spent several sessions working one on one with Andrew on various exercises as well as other treatment methodologies to focus on my shoulder and I am VERY happy to say I have increased both strength and mobility in overhead movements and I am no longer in pain! I would highly recommend the Charlotte Athlete to anyone who is experiencing pain doing what you love – his knowledge of athletes and focus on getting to the source of my problem have been like no other experience I’ve had with a practitioner. I spent so much time and money seeking treatments that didn't work – this one is different. Save yourself the time, money, and pain and go see Andrew!

I was lucky enough to find Dr. Andrew Kenas shortly after moving to Charlotte from NY. I had sprained my ankle over a year ago and unfortunately with the wrong treatment from countless physical therapists and generally not listening to my body, things had gone down hill. As a powerlifter and extremely active person, I often felt hopeless that I would ever feel normal again. After 7 months of no relief, I decided to get a second opinion from an orthopedist who recommended a boot and crutches for 2 months, due to a stress reaction in my shin along with the tendinosis in ankle. After getting out of the boot, I spent another 3 months in PT in NYC but still unable to get back to squatting without pain. Fast forward a month being in Charlotte and feeling pain from just waking around, I found Andrew after searching for PT offices nearby and thankfully he answered his phone on a Saturday afternoon. Andrew was confident he could get me back to squatting by really understanding what the underlying cause was for the pain. Overall I’m extremely happy to say that in a matter of 4 weeks of treatment, Andrew had me squatting painfree! I’m so thankfully to have found The Charlotte Athlete. I have already recommended Andrew to a couple of friends. He’s knowledgeable, attentive, passionate and will always go out of his way for his patients. Thank you Andrew!!
